Fellow Rotarians and Citizens,
I am pleased and honored to be the 99th president of the Houma Rotary Club for the 2020-2021 year. As we embark on our centennial celebration in 2021, I cannot help but reflect on the tremendous impact that our club has made to our community and to the lives of the citizens of our parish.
In the last century, our club has been involved in infrastructure projects such as the construction of the Intracoastal Canal tunnel. We have organized and assisted the formation of several nonprofit organizations in our area such as the United Way of South Louisiana and Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence. In addition, we have been involved with public programs such as the Library and Tourism Agency for Terrebonne Parish.
As a rotary member we all come together to form a common goal of improving our community whether that is through service, citizenship, or education. Our Members are friends, family, and colleagues all representing various aspects of our community. We live by the motto “Service above Self” because we believe in the opportunity to continually improve our community. It is so appropriate that Rotary International chose “Rotary Opens Opportunities” as the theme for the coming year, as if it were selected specifically for our club. It is our opportunity to continue the legacy of this club started 99 years ago.
In the upcoming year, we have identified several opportunities including:
- Growing our service by expanding and diversifying our membership base;
- Creating a lasting impact for children with our Early Act & Interact Program;
- Promoting patriotism and regional growth with the American Flag Project;
- Assisting our Veterans with our Starter Kit Initiative; and
- Leaving a lasting legacy to the next generation of citizens by creating a Centennial Project as a gift to our community.
Rotarians work together to make a difference in the lives of others for the great good of society. I call upon all Rotarians, current and those called to join our mission, to aim for opportunities to strengthen our service today and for generations to come.
Yours in Rotary,
2020 – 2021 Board Members
